EAL - Children with English as an Additional Language

Navigating admissions procedures can be challenging for many families. Needing an email address, an account with a login and password and the ability to navigate websites and forms, are just some of the skills needed. All families must follow this system, to access Stockport secondary schools.

Many children, including those with EAL, miss out on their local school as parents do not always apply for the one in their catchment area. This leads to disappointment as often the schools outside the catchment are over subscribed, which is resulting in children being placed in schools much further from home. This is challenging as children are not in school with their peer group from KS2 therefore navigating a new group of friends

alongside the complexity of travel without support.
