Assessment

Some children learn quickly, whilst others need more time. We undertake assessment throughout the year. Through this the next steps in learning can be identified and passed between teachers as the children progress from one year to the next.

In this way we can make sure that all children are challenged and supported in their learning.

Assessment forms an integral part of the curriculum at St. Ambrose in all year groups.

Assessments are judgements which help teachers identify the next steps in a child's learning.

We use a variety of Teacher Assessment strategies and standardised tests throughout the school to ensure children are making appropriate progress and are supported and challenged in their learning. Also see our Marking Policy

At the end of each Key Stage children are assessed using the national tests.

From Year 1 children are involved in standardised tests to track their performance as they move through the school.

Children in Key Stage 1 are assessed at the end of Year 2 by SATS (Statutory Assessment Tests).

Children in Year 1 are also assessed by the phonics screening check.

Children in Year 2 who have not passed the Phonics screening Check in Year 1 are re screened .

Children in Year 4 are assessed on their Multiplication tables.

Children in Key Stage 2 are assessed at the end of Year 6 by SATS.

Children in EYFS have a baseline on Entry and the Statutory Foundation Stage Profile is completed at the end of Reception.
